The introduction of the OEUK Safe Weight Limit Policy from 1st November 2026 means that any personnel exceeding a clothed weight of 124kg will not be able to mobilise offshore.

Operationally, our priority is to ensure a smooth implementation of the regulations, with two main strands of activity:

  • Supporting our people with the aim of keeping them within the new industry policy.

  • Working collaboratively with our clients to help them navigate the changes.

As a foodservice and facilities management partner, we’re well positioned to assist our clients. We can do this by helping members of their workforce who are impacted by the regulations, through our balanced food offer and educational resources that empower them to make healthier diet and lifestyle choices.

Since the start of the year, we’ve met with each of our clients to review their contracts and identify potential changes – for example, reviewing tabnab options served during breaks and modifying the definitions from traditional snack options to more nutritionally balanced options

For context, the vast majority of the offshore workforce (an estimated 95%) are already within the weight restriction limits of the new policy. Many offshore roles are physically demanding with high energy requirements, therefore it’s important that any changes made to our offer do not impact overall choice and wellbeing for our customers.

We’ve highlighted the wide variety of health and wellbeing resources available from the ESS nutrition and wellbeing team, all of which are promoted to our customers and clients. These don’t just look at food but highlight the impact of broader lifestyle factors like exercise, sleep and stress to build a holistic approach.

There’s no one size fits all when it comes to the support we can offer our clients – it’s about providing the means to eat healthily through our balanced food offer and the information to understand what that looks like through our Wellness programme.
