OEUK Safe Weight Limit Policy - Wellbeing Focus
Leanne King, Head of Nutrition & Wellbeing - ESS

When the OEUK Safe Weight Limit Policy is introduced in November, workers exceeding 124kg will not be permitted to travel offshore. We’ve taken a proactive approach, with an 11-month lead in to prepare for the change and support colleagues or customers who may be affected.
We deploy our Wellness Commitment as standard across our contracts. It was developed to help people make better informed choices for their own health and wellbeing, both in work and at home. It comprises four pillars: Healthier Food, Healthier Mind, Healthier Body and Healthier World.
As well as providing a food offer that supports a healthy, balanced lifestyle, we aim to foster a holistic wellness culture with consumer education at its heart. We offer wide-ranging information and resources across multiple platforms including:
A seasonal Wellness Magazine shared via email, our website and LinkedIn, providing facts accompanied by personal stories.
Monthly wellness webinars shared on YouTube, covering a diverse range of subjects that align with our Wellness pillars.
Monthly content for display in restaurants, so our customers see wellness messaging while queueing for meals or on screens in communal areas.
An ‘Ask Your ESS Nutrition and Wellbeing Specialist’ email address that colleagues and customers can use to contact our registered nutritionists directly.
All resources are available to our colleagues and customers.
In addition to the support already available, we’ve created bespoke campaigns to align with the introduction of the new regulations:
Mapping the North Sea – We’ve challenged our colleagues to make the 5,000km journey from our northernmost offshore facility (Penguins) to our southernmost unit (27B). Participants are exercising for at least 150 minutes a week, with every minute converting to a km.
Hydrate to Operate – Recognising that many of our colleagues will be upping their activity levels as part of Mapping the North Sea and the critical role hydration plays in optimising performance, we’ve challenged participants to drink the recommended 6-8 glasses of fluid a day throughout their North Sea journey.
The challenges are still underway, and It’s been fantastic to see people supporting and motivating each other to achieve a common goal.
